Find Lake County Released Inmates

Lake County released inmates can leave a local jail, state prison, federal facility, or immigration setting by very different routes. A Lake County released inmate search must begin with the agency that last held the person, then follow any transfer or supervision record. Lake County released inmates may have returned to the community, entered parole, remained on probation, or moved straight into another agency’s custody. County release records establish when the jail stopped holding someone, while state corrections and court records explain other parts of the outcome. To search for Lake County released inmates accurately, match the person, date, facility, and record type before drawing a conclusion.

Understanding Lake County Releases

“Released” describes the end of one agency’s physical custody. It does not always mean that a person went home. The Lake County Jail may release someone after bond, dismissal, acquittal, credit for time served, or completion of a local sentence. It may also transfer the person to the Michigan Department of Corrections, another county, federal authorities, or U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. A transfer ends Lake County Jail custody but continues detention elsewhere. The county release sheet should show the date, time, and disposition recorded by the jail.

State prison terms use different language. A person paroled by MDOC has left prison for supervised release, but MDOC jurisdiction continues. Final discharge comes later when state jurisdiction ends. Probation is imposed by a court and does not prove that someone served a prison term. These distinctions determine which record answers the question. Leaving one roster does not prove community release.

Parole
Release from state prison into MDOC community supervision.
Probation
Court-ordered supervision that may occur without a prison term.
Discharge
The end of the MDOC jurisdiction shown for a sentence.
Time served
Completion of the custodial time credited on the local sentence.
Detainer
A request or hold that can lead to continued custody or transfer.

Lake County Release Types

The exact release code matters more than a loose summary. Bond can leave the case open. A dismissal ends the listed charge but does not rule out another hold. Parole changes prison custody to supervision. A transfer shows that the former custodian handed responsibility to another agency. The next useful record depends on the stated disposition.

Release typeMeaningNext record to check
BondPhysical jail release while the case may continueMiCOURT bond order and register of actions
Dismissal or acquittalThe identified charge ended without convictionCourt disposition and jail release timestamp
Time served or expirationThe local custodial part endedJudgment, sentence credit, and custody ledger
ParoleMDOC prison custody changed to supervisionOTIS Date Paroled and assigned office
ProbationThe court imposed community supervisionMiCOURT judgment and OTIS when MDOC supervises
TransferCustody continued with another agencyReceiving jail, OTIS, BOP, or ICE ODLS
DeceasedCustody ended because of deathExact agency record and discharge reason

Can a bond order prove the person left? No. It gives legal authority for release, but staff may still need to process the order or resolve another hold. Pair the court event with the Lake County release sheet.

Lake County Release Record Fields

A Lake County jail release record answers when and how the sheriff stopped holding one person. It is narrower than a full criminal case record. The best request asks for an existing booking or jail-management record and names the fields needed. Some details may be withheld or redacted, so no request can promise every field.

FieldWhat it shows
Booking numberConnects the release to one jail admission
Name, alias, or identifierHelps match the correct person
Booking date and timeWhen that custody event began
Releasing facilityWhich custodian ended physical control
Release date and timeWhen release processing was recorded
Authority and dispositionBond, court order, sentence completion, transfer, or another code
Destination or agencyWhere custody went if the event was a transfer
Case, charge, bond, and creditLinks the event to its legal and sentence context

A court register of actions can explain the legal cause, while the jail record establishes the physical event. For MDOC, “Date Paroled” addresses prison exit and “Discharge Date” addresses the later end of jurisdiction. One generic “release date” should not replace those labels.

Note: A public release timestamp can exist even when private, medical, juvenile, safety, or investigative details are lawfully withheld.

Request Lake County Release Records

Use the Lake County FOIA request channel for a historical jail release. The coordinator is Tobi G. Lake, 800 Tenth Street, Suite 100, Baldwin, MI 49304, phone (231) 745-6231, fax (231) 745-8632, and lakecountyadministrator@co.lake.mi.us. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ask for existing records, not a new report or investigation.

  1. Give the legal name, aliases, date of birth if known, and the approximate booking period.
  2. Add a booking or case number when available and identify the Lake County Corrections Division.
  3. Ask for the booking/release sheet or jail-management custody record, including public release date, time, disposition code, and receiving agency if transferred.
  4. Choose electronic delivery when practical. The county form also permits mail or email delivery choices.
  5. Review any denial, redaction, fee estimate, or no-record response within the exact scope that the county searched.

Michigan FOIA generally requires a written response within five business days. The response can grant, deny, partly grant, or extend the response period by up to ten business days. That deadline does not always mean the records will be produced at once. Permitted charges can cover actual incremental search, review, separation, media, copying, and mailing. Common-size paper copies may not exceed ten cents per sheet. An estimate over $50 may support a deposit of up to half.

If the first description is too broad, narrow the dates and name the release sheet, custody-status log, release-code field, and transfer field. A request for a “release certificate” may fail if no such record exists. Ask instead for the retained record that stores the time and disposition.

Lake County Release Record Law

Michigan’s Freedom of Information Act is 1976 PA 442, MCL 15.231 and following. MCL 15.235 governs the response process, while MCL 15.234 governs fees and MCL 15.243 lists exemptions. Relevant limits can cover private information, active investigations, fair-trial interests, protected sources or methods, safety, and records made confidential by another law. The agency should separate nonexempt parts where practical.

Lake County does not publish an online retention period for jail release records. Ask for retained responsive material rather than assuming that an old record is gone. Juvenile, sealed, set-aside, medical, victim, witness, and facility-security details can be unavailable or redacted. A set-aside can restrict an eligible conviction from ordinary public view, but it does not rewrite the historical release event.

Important: Michigan FOIA provides access to existing public records. It does not require Lake County to create a custom release narrative or disclose exempt fields.

Lake County Release Facility History

The official Corrections Division description says the main Lake County Jail opened in the mid-1960s with 28 beds. A 2000 remodel raised capacity to 48. Those facts help identify the local jail behind an older release record, but the same page does not publish release hours, an exit point, property pickup rules, weekend practice, transportation plans, or a recent-release archive.

North Lake has changed functions several times. Its present role is an ICE processing center, not the state or federal prison described by older material. Historical labels should never determine the current lookup route. Match the custody date and operator before deciding whether a Lake County, MDOC, BOP, or ICE record applies.

Note: Call the responsible facility for current release logistics because Lake County has not published those operating details online.

Clean Slate and Lake County Releases

Michigan’s automatic Clean Slate timing makes the date of custody completion important. Under MCL 780.621g, an eligible felony generally reaches automatic set-aside timing ten years after sentence or completion of imprisonment, whichever is later, subject to statutory limits and exclusions. Eligible misdemeanors may follow a seven-year period after sentence.

A missing MiCOURT result has several possible causes. The name or court may be wrong, the online display period may have ended, the matter may be nonpublic or set aside, or the court may not expose that record online. The Lake County release record can still establish a custodial date even when ordinary court access changes.

Note: A set-aside changes ordinary public access but does not alter the date when a custodial agency recorded release.

Find Lake County Released Inmates

Start with the last known custodian. Lake County Jail, MDOC, North Lake, BOP, and USMS custody have separate records. A name-only match is weak. Compare a date of birth, middle name, booking or case number, MDOC number, SID, A-number, federal register number, aliases, county, and visible physical details where the system provides them.

  1. For a Lake County Jail booking, call (231) 745-6201 and ask whether the person is physically held now. If not, ask whether a public record identifies a transfer.
  2. Search MiCOURT under the current Lake County courts for a bond, dismissal, sentence, or other legal event.
  3. Use OTIS when an MDOC prison term, state transfer, parole, probation, or parole violation is plausible.
  4. Use ICE ODLS for North Lake or a possible immigration transfer. Use the BOP locator for a sentenced federal prisoner.
  5. Preserve a MI-VINE event if one was received, but confirm the event with the reporting or receiving agency.
  6. Request the sheriff release sheet for a durable Lake County timestamp and disposition.
Leaving one roster does not prove community release. “Not here” can mean transfer, and Lake County has no verified public roster whose disappearance can establish an exit.

Lake County Recent Release Search

No verified official Lake County 24-hour list, 72-hour list, separate release archive, public booking-photo roster, update schedule, or online retention window was found in the county sources reviewed on July 24, 2026. The Sheriff’s web presence also did not expose a verified jail-search app. An unsupported county-branded service should not replace the official record path.

For a same-day claim, call the jail and ask about current physical custody. Save any MI-VINE notice and check the next system if staff indicates a transfer. MiCOURT may show why release was allowed, but the sheriff record supplies the actual time and disposition. A later FOIA response is the enduring proof.

Note: The absence finding concerns the reviewed public county channels and may change if Lake County later adds an official feed.

Lake County Release Supervision

OTIS can identify a parolee, probationer, assigned location, and supervision conditions. Parole follows an MDOC prison term and is granted by the Michigan Parole Board. Probation comes from the sentencing court. The Lake County Parole/Probation Office is at 1153 Michigan Avenue in Baldwin and uses the distinct number (231) 745-0290. Verify the live OTIS status before contacting the office.

Michigan also maintains separate “Parole Absconders” and “Probation Absconders” filters. A parole absconder is sought by MDOC after failing to report. A probation absconder remains under the sentencing county’s jurisdiction. The label should be copied exactly with its source date and not recast as a new case outcome.

Note: Probation status alone does not show that a Lake County person ever left an MDOC prison.

Lake County Reentry Release Status

MDOC materials identify a Lake County Residential Reentry Program in Baldwin that serves males and females. Residential reentry is a structured placement, not unrestricted community release and not final discharge. It must also be distinguished from the nearby county jail and North Lake ICE center.

Use OTIS and MDOC to confirm the current assignment and supervision status. An “Assigned Location” may name a prison, supervision office, or other MDOC unit, so read that field with “Current Status.” A location name by itself does not establish the level of custody.

Correcting Lake County Release Records

Responsibility for an OTIS error depends on where the information began. A sentence, conviction, or court-file error should be taken to the sentencing court. A supervision error, including an incorrect absconder status, belongs with the supervising office. MDOC then updates its public system after the needed court order or agent direction.

Keep a copy of the profile, record the retrieval date, and identify the exact field in dispute. One sentence may be inactive while another remains active, so compare profile-level status with each sentence before alleging an error. A disagreement about the physical Lake County Jail exit time should go to the sheriff record, not OTIS.

Note: The office that originated a disputed field is the right first contact for a Lake County correction request.

Lake County Release Court Change

Lake County’s court alignment changed effective July 1, 2022. Current State Court Administrative Office material identifies the 27th Circuit Court and 78th District Court. Older instructions naming the 51st Circuit or 79th District can misdirect a release-disposition search, though older records may still bear those former labels.

Use MiCOURT Case Search with the current court selection and review the case number, charges, register of actions, bond, disposition, judgment, sentence, probation, and later events. The court record explains legal authority. It does not replace the jail release timestamp. When the online result is missing or limited, the Lake County Trial Court clerk at 800 Tenth Street, Baldwin, can provide the local record route at (231) 745-4614 during posted weekday hours.

The source capture from the SCAO Lake County court page helps confirm the current assignment.

Using that current assignment prevents a plausible but stale court name from blocking the search.

Note: Older Lake County files may retain former court labels even though new searches should use the current assignment.

Lake County Release Notifications

MI-VINE offers free custody and case-event notification through VINELink and at (800) 770-7657. Events can include release, transfer, escape, court hearings, case status, and disposition. Michigan materials describe participating county jails, so Lake County coverage and the exact matching record should be checked live. A VINE alert reflects the reporting agency’s event. It is not a permanent archive or proof that no other custodian took over.

For a federal sentenced person, the BOP Inmate Locator covers federal inmates from 1982 forward. “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody” speaks only to BOP custody. USMS pretrial detainees may never appear in the sentenced-prisoner locator, so the federal docket, facility, counsel, or USMS contact may be needed.

ICE Holds After Lake County Release

North Lake Processing Center is now an ICE facility operated by GEO Group. An ICE detainer may ask Lake County to notify ICE and hold a person for up to 48 additional hours so immigration authorities can assume custody. The jail can therefore record a release at the same point that ICE detention begins.

Search the ICE Online Detainee Locator System by a nine-digit A-number and country of birth, or by exact name and country of birth. A no-match result is not proof of release because the system has timing and scope limits. Contact North Lake or the responsible ICE office when ODLS is inconclusive.

The captured ICE detainer explanation illustrates why a Lake County jail exit can be a transfer rather than a return home.

That distinction should remain explicit in every account of the event.

Note: An ICE locator miss is inconclusive and should be checked with North Lake or the responsible ICE office.

Lake County Release System Comparison

No single database answers whether a person has left all custody. Each source reports only for its own agency or legal system. Match the last known setting to the right first check, then follow every transfer.

SettingStill held checkDeparture record
Lake County JailCall the jailSheriff release sheet or custody log
MDOC prisonOTIS Prisoner statusDate Paroled or discharge certificate, as applicable

BOP institutionBOP locator location/statusBOP release status and date, then any next system
Lake County court matterCourt record is not a custody rosterBond, dismissal, judgment, or sentence plus custodian confirmation

What if two sources disagree? Compare the source scope and “as of” time. A court can enter an order before jail processing ends, while ODLS or OTIS may lag a transfer. Preserve both results and ask the custodian.

Expired OTIS Lake County Records

A discharged OTIS profile remains in the public system for three years after supervision discharge, not necessarily three years after prison departure. Someone paroled years earlier may remain visible until that later window ends. A Lake County jail-only defendant, by contrast, will not appear in OTIS merely because the local conviction is recent.

MDOC separately lists MDOC-Records_Retention@michigan.gov for past-prisoner records up to six years post-release. That creates a useful bridge when a once-visible profile has aged out. Match the records response to the sentencing court and prior identifiers before describing final discharge. An expired profile does not show that MDOC never held the person.

Note: Keep the last verified status, date label, source, and retrieval date before a public corrections profile expires.

Lake County Release Facilities

Two operating detention settings in Lake County require separate release paths. The Lake County Jail holds local pretrial detainees, local sentenced people, and some people for other authorities. Its departures can lead to the community, MDOC, another jail, federal custody, treatment, or ICE. The sheriff phone and county FOIA record are the core local sources.

The North Lake Processing Center is an ICE center, not a county jail or MDOC prison. A departure can mean community release, transfer, removal, or movement to another ICE site. ODLS, North Lake, and ICE’s responsible office are the correct confirmation route. OTIS applies only if a separate MDOC matter exists.
